Adding Air to Fire Rescue Vehicles

Spartan Presents the Full Air Front Suspension System

DENVER, August 11th, 2005—Spartan Chassis, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAR), is carrying on its reputation for innovation by introducing the Full Air Front Suspension System on their fire rescue vehicles today at the Fire-Rescue International Conference in Denver, Colorado.

“The Full Air Front Suspension System not only improves the performance and maneuverability of our fire rescue cabs and chassis, it also adds features critical to safe vehicle operation,” reports Richard Schalter, president of Spartan Chassis.

Spartan Chassis has been widely recognized for bringing the independent front suspension system to the motorhome industry. Spartan recently took their smooth suspension technology to the test when the IFS system was adapted for use on high-performance rescue vehicles.

A Spartan cab and chassis equipped with the Full Air Front Suspension system has a 55° wheel cut; the highest turning radius on an any fire rescue vehicle on the market. The 17-inch air disc brakes that come standard with the Full Air Front Suspension System stops the vehicle with extreme accuracy. When a fully loaded rescue vehicle is traveling at 60 miles per hour, the 17-inch air disc brakes stop the vehicle 88 feet sooner than the same vehicle traveling the same speed, only equipped with 16.5-inch drum brakes.

When fire departments specify Spartan’s Full Air Front Suspension System, they will be receiving a heightened level of control, performance, maneuverability and reliability on their next chassis. In the emergency response profession, these features are vital to safe vehicle operation.
