History of the Spartan Chassis International Club
Spartan's primary business focus was in the fire truck cab/chassis market until 1986 when the production of motorhome chassis began. Two Spartan chassis owners, Marsh Carson and Scott Brady, generated support among other owners to form a chapter of the Family Motor Coaching Association (FMCA), which is known today as the Spartan International Chassis Club (SCIC). The club was chartered as an official chapter on March 8, 1989 during the FMCA winter convention and has been growing ever since.
Spartan hosted its first motorhome rally at the Sherwood Forest Campground in a nearby city south of the Spartan campus located in Charlotte, MI. Since July 1989, the rally has been hosted at the Eaton County Fairgrounds just down the road from Spartan. The rally follows immediately after Memorial Day weekend and the FMCA’s Great Lakes Area Spring Spree Rally.
The rally was created for the purpose of providing RV do-it-yourselfers with information to maintain and service their own coaches. The event also gave attendees the opportunity to obtain service at the Spartan Service Center while in Charlotte. Over the years, attendees have enjoyed the various seminars, extracurricular activities ranging from golf outings to jewelry making, factory tours, musical performances, and great food. Attendees have also been able to interact with Spartan associates from all levels of the company.
